EuroVelo 13 Iron Curtain Trail

The Iron Curtain Trail (ICT) follows the line where division between the Western Europe and the Communist Eastern Europe used to be guarded by a barbed wire fence until 1989. In our region it crosses the Czech-Austrian border many times to take you on both sides of the former Iron Curtain. Amongst the highlights belong the last remaining barbed wire section with a watchtower in Cizov, restored fortification in Satov, Iron Curtain museum in Valtice and a memorial to the Iron Curtain victims near Mikulov. There are also hundreds of pre-WWII bunkers built originally to face the Nazi invasion in the late 1930s which were later used as a part of the Iron Curtain.
As most of the ICT sections in our region follow dedicated asphalt bike paths, calm backroads or field trails, the route is suitable for a relaxed family trip as well. You can start or end in Mikulov, it is also possible to extend the ride further to the west as far as Germany, or go to the south along the fortified border between Austria and Slovakia and head for the Slovak capital, Bratislava.
You can drop-off the rented bikes with 50% off the return fee in Cesky Krumlov or Bratislava.
